A Swedish woman, tired of the noise made by her amorous neighbors in the apartment above, took her quest for some peace and quiet to an official environmental health committee.
Jon Persson, who works with the local health committee in Simrishamn, some 382 miles south of the capital, Stockholm, said Thursday that the woman said she was "distressed, angry and tense all over" because her neighbors make love loudly almost nightly.

THE placing of a mythical monster on Sweden’s endangered species list, in an apparent fit of bureaucratic zeal, has caused an administrative problem for the country’s authorities.
"During a routine inspection of the environment court in Jaemtland recently, we came across a decision that attracted our interest," said Nils-Olof Berggren, a Swedish parliamentary ombudsman.

The Swedish parliament voted on Wednesday against the Social Democratic government’s proposal to temporarily restrict job opportunities for nationals of the countries set to join the EU on May 1. Lawmakers rejected by 182 votes to 137 temporary measures that would have required nationals of the new European Union members, excluding Malta and Cyprus, to prove that they have an employment contract before they could receive a work permit in Sweden.

There was no immediate word on any casualties on Monday.

Swedish police have arrested four people suspected of links to terrorism and Islamic extremism.
"Four people have been taken in for questioning, people with links to terror activities, Islamic extremism," Sweden's TT news agency quoted a SAPO security police official, Janne Jonsson, as saying.
The daily Aftonbladet said the four were arrested on suspicion they had supported Iraqi rebel attacks on US troops in Iraq.

Scandinavian airline operator SAS announced Wednesday it had reached wage agreements with its pilots and cabin crew that it said would help the company cut costs by about $1.7 billion by 2005.
The SAS board also formally approved previously announced plans to split its largest carrier, Scandinavian Airlines System, into three wholly owned subsidiaries to operate flights in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

A senior official in the Mozambican Education Ministry has denied that the Ministry failed to account properly for Swedish aid money - but the Swedish authorities are demanding that the money be repaid.
